50TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Calabash Elementary School proudly celebrates its 50th Anniversary by participating in 50 days of local community service and school pride.

January 19, 2010

KICK OFF CELEBRATION

We ring in 50 years with a fun filled program that will include speakers and will showcase some of Calabash’s talented students and teachers. We invite the alumni and members of the community to kick off with us and network with fellow alumni and new friends.

January 19 - February 5, 2010

BOOKENDS BOOK DRIVE

We will be participating in a student-run book drive with Bookends, a local non-profit organization that recycles children's books through book drives and places them in schools and youth organizations in need of books. For more information about this organization, please visit www.bookends.org.

February 8 - February 12, 2010

HELPING OUR FURRY FRIENDS

We will be collecting items for a local non-profit no kill shelter. Students will learn about the pet adoption process.

February 16 - February 19, 2010

TAKE YOUR FAMILY TO SCHOOL

This week we celebrate our families. Each class will create a Heritage Wall to be displayed around the school. Each student will create a page for their class Heritage Binder. They can draw a picture or include a family photo and write a story about their family.

February 22 - February 26, 2010

CALABASH HISTORY– 50 YEARS AND COUNTING

This week we celebrate Calabash’s history. Alumni and former teachers will give the students a “history lesson” on Calabash. Students will create a “What Calabash Means To Me” page for their classroom’s “history books." Students can create “then and now” boards or posters: 1959 to 2009 to be displayed in classrooms or around the school.

March 1 - March 5, 2010

MY SCHOOL IS BEAUTIFUL

Each class will be assigned a specific “beautification” project from trash collection to planting to recycling. We will also paint a mural to commemorate Calabash’s 50 years of excellence.

CLOSING CELEBRATION

Festivities will include a slide show including Calabash 1959 to present plus the past 50 days of activity.
