Fall Fun in the Library

Spooky tales are always a favorite around Halloween and this year was no exception! Students visit the Library Media Center with their class once a week and, after story-time, explore the Library in order to find books for projects, free-choice reading or may complete a library skills assignment. With students still clamoring for tales of Halloween dread, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we have plenty to be thankful for in the Library Media Center:Our Barnes and Noble Book Fair raised $516 for new library books. Thanks to all of you who made purchases during our week-long event and to Book Fair helpers, Melinda Pittler, Kelly Kaufman and Felicia Jackson. The first night book-signing event was a fun, special occasion and it was a privilege to meet so many students and parents outside of the school environment. I wished we’d had more time to chat. ‘Penhaligon’ and I were overwhelmed by your support, thank you!The Literacy Garden grows towards completion with our smart, new tables and umbrellas, replaced concrete and fence, 5th grade graduation tiles in place and even two new planters! Due to severe watering restrictions, the planting of ground cover has been delayed. Thanks to Mr. Adeli, Melanie Ladish, Mr. Klempfner and Jeanette Straschewski for your help in completing these projects! And thanks, as always, to our Library volunteers who work so diligently helping our students during their class times. To the families who contributed to the new electric pencil sharpener…the homework club students are SO grateful. Thanks! Just a reminder, Homework club is available until 3:30 pm everyday. If your child participates, please have them bring the supplies they need such as pencils, erasers etc., as we often run out. Observing Library rules is paramount due to the wide age range and number of students. If your child prefers a louder, more socially interactive environment in which to work, they will be encouraged to work outside in the Literacy Garden where moderate noise levels may be acceptable. This ensures that other students are not disturbed, especially those working with one on one tutors and parents. The Library is also open at recess and some lunch times. Parents are welcome to browse books and read with their child after school. Happy Thanksgiving!
