This year Calabash Elementary School is participating in Book It! Book It! is a national reading incentive program that was created in 1985 and sponsored by Pizza Hut. This program motivates children to read by rewarding their reading accomplishments with praise, recognition and pizza.
Each month teachers will set a reading goal. A tracking chart will be sent home monthly to document the reading activity. Once the goal is met and the completed goal chart returned to school, the child will receive a Reading Award Certificate. The certificate can be redeemed for a free one-topping Personal Pan Pizza at Pizza Hut.
Book It! starts October 1,2009.
Book It! ends March 31, 2010.
Please go to the website for more information. There are excellent resources to check out. There is Bound Together, an online parent club to encourage at home reading habits. The Book Nook has great lists of literature sorted by category and age. The Read League encourages reading with puzzles, worksheets and coloring sheets.
Please encourage your child to meet the monthly reading goals. Books can be read to or by the child.
